Google and Motorola expected to come up with 'X' mobile devices

Google has worked with Samsung, HTC and LG till now to release Nexus-branded devices and now is likely to be the turn of Motorola. According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the two companies (Google and Motorola) are said to be operating on an 'X' phone and a 'X' tablet for release in the year 2013.

Speaking to the WSJ, the new Motorola Mobility CEO, Dennis Woodside said that the company is investing in a technology and the team which will work beyond the current approaches. Although, Motorola was left behind in the competition this year, but now it is supposed to come back in the game with Google's support and resources. Larry Page, the CEO, Google is reported to have planned a huge marketing budget for the upcoming devices.

As Nexus phones have always been deficient on the imaging aspect, Motorola Mobility is expected to be working on advanced feature for photo software and camera. Motorola will be incorporating new gesture-recognition and imaging features from Viewdle, a company acquired by Motorola earlier this year. The computer vision technology from Viewdle includes camera-based innovations in device interaction, augmented reality, gaming, media management and social networking.

Apart from improving the imaging aspect, Motorola was also analysing the use of 'bendable screen and materials like ceramics'. However, it met with difficulties in manufacturing and supply-chain management. 

Motorola is well-known for its expertise in hardware and superior battery life. If this reports turn out to be accurate, the year 2013 will offer a line of strongest Nexus devices.

Intel introduced the world's first low processor for microservers

Intel Corporation has revealed its new Intel Atom S1200 low power, 64-bit server-class System-on-Chip (SoC) on 11 December, 2012. The SoC is suitable for high-density microservers and new energy-efficient networking and storage systems. This industrial-strengthen microprocessor supports capabilities fro achieving manageability, server-class reliability and cost-effectiveness.

 The Vice president & General Manager, Datacenter and Connected Systems Group, Intel, Diane Bryant said that the company recognised the need for a new class of energy-efficient and high-density servers and other equipments, several years ago. Now, the company is delivering the industry's only 6-watt SoC which covers all these datacenter features.

The need of high density servers with low-processors has increased with continuous and growing usage of the cloud. Thus, Intel's SoC will provide users with desired performance while reducing the energy consumption, which is one of the biggest cost drivers in data centers.

The first low-power SoC, Intel Atom processor S1200 product family, includes two physical cores along with four threads, which are enabled with Intel's hyper-Threading Technology. It also packages a 64-bit memory support, Intel Virtualization Technologies, a memory controller with 8GB of DDR3 memory support, Error-Correcting Code, eight lanes of PCI Express 2.0 and other I/O interfaces combined from Intel chipsets.
The Intel Atom S1200 product family will also work in harmony with the x86 which is commonly used software in data centers today. This provides easy integration of the new low-powered equipment while avoiding additional investments in porting and maintaining new software stacks.
